Marshmallow Tower Exercise

We almost had it!!!!
  • Was there a leader in your group? Who was it and who decided who the leader would be? Savannah I guess we collectively made the descision.
  • If you had no leader, do you think having designated someone a leader would have helped?
  • How helpful was everyone on your team in the process of building the tallest structure? Everyone is was helpful. We kinda had the same ideas about how to secure our structure
  • How helpful was the five-minute design process? Did anyone appear to be an expert? I dont think we use the five minutes very well. No one seem to be an expert.
  • Did any team members tune out the activity–out of frustration with other members or for some other reason? No
  • What could you have done to keep all members of the group fully engaged? We were all engaged.
  • Did you feel everyone’s ideas were well received during the activity? Yes
  • How did you feel as the time limit was approaching? Did pressure increase? If yes, was that helpful or not? Stressed I felt like we would not have a structure that would meet the requirements
  • In retrospect, what could you have done differently throughout this process? We could have used the five minutes before to plan better.

Sandwich Feedback

Who was your partner and what was their project? Dara
Did you feel that having the sandwich template helped your critiquing efforts? Yes, it gave me some questions to ask because I could not think of any.
In which role did you feel the most/least comfortable; being evaluated or in the role of the evaluator? neither because I didn’t want to get or delivered any bad news
What did you learn from interacting with your partner? I learned that my partner was a good observer and gave her critiques with respect to my feelings
What do your feel were your strengths / weaknesses as an evaluator? strenghts is I have an good eye to spot mistakes/ weakness is my confident
What would you do differently next time you found yourself in an ethical constructive feedback situation? I will be confident in my ablities to give critiques because it helps me and the other person.

I just need to be confident the next time I have to do this assignment again.

Leadership

This class period we talked about what makes a leader a good one. We collectively came up with 13 qualities.

  • Delegation
  • Motivation
  • Initiative
  • Patience
  • Confidence
  • Compassion
  • Responsible
  • Integrity
  • Open-minded
  • Communication Skills
  • Trustworthiness
  • Moral Compass
  • Humility

Next, we read a case study about 7 different people. It gave us a brief summary of each person’s character, accomplishments, and their occupation. The people were stranded on an island. Hmm, this sounds familiar. On the island, there was a captain, first mate, celebrity, psychiatrist billionaire, plastic surgeon, and factory worker. We then had to decide who will be a designated or emergent leader. My team picked the order wrong both times.

Communication Skills

On Jan 30th, we talked about what excellent skills a group should have. We talked about what kind of climate will group needs to be successful and what process we need to use/ go through to have that. My group talked about having openness for others’ ideas and opinions. We also said that good group members should have respect for other members.

Climate/Process

SpaceX

Who was your partner and what was their project? Dara
Did you feel that having the sandwich template helped your critiquing efforts? Yes, I guess it did.
In which role did you feel the most/least comfortable; being evaluated or in the role of the elevator? I felt least comfortable being the elevator.
What did you learn from interacting with your partner? My partner had a lot of good suggestion for my project even though I was not fully finish with it. She was very positive about the look of my project as well.
What do your feel were your strengths / weaknesses as an elevator? I’m not for sure if the i have any strengths as a elevator and my weakness is that have no strengths.
What would you do differently next time you found yourself in an ethical constructive feedback situation? I will keep an open mind just as I did the past time.

In true fashion I procrastinated on how much time I had to complete this project. When in class you all talk about staying on top of things and being organized our work. But I feel like even if I would have taken my time it would have been the same basic site that i built with out any pizzazz of bangs and whistles.

Is it an elevator speech or pitch ???

Hello, I’m Candice. I am a caring, hard-working, fun person. I love to joke and play around but I work just as hard as I play. I
know with those simple qualities you would I didn’t have weakness sadly I do. I can be a big procrastinator on my own time. Then I
tend to rush to finish the task. I also sometimes have a hard time saying no to people. My goal is simply to better than yesterday and my
motivators are is my family because I want s
I also don’t always speak up and giving my opinion because I want people to take the wrong way.

Cultural Organization Assignment

The culture that we have in this class is a unique one. We all seem to really get alone and can easily work together. This is why I believe that language, humor, and play, physical settings, rituals, values are the cultural identifications that our class has.  These five cultural identification gives us our CSS or style for the class. Each of these identifications helps this itec 3610 become the IT Citrines.

The language, humor, and play I feel work together. I believe that I picked these identities because we love to laugh, joke, and play it makes the time go by faster. The laughs that we share together makes for a comfortable learning environment. It also shows that we genuinely enjoy each other’s company.  The language is apart of humor and play. We use language when we tell the jokes or just say things that cause others to laugh. Our language is how we communicate. The citrines love to talk, well some of us do.

The class’s physical setting for the citrines is the seating arrangement that we use. We all tend to sit in the same seats in every one of Thomas and Bruce’s classes. But we usually change things around in Johnston’s class for some reason. We also love to bring own snacks to class to set the mood so we can stay alert during all the lectures. The fact that all have the computers that we’re working on is another part of the setting we have in the classroom.

The ritual that we have in class is similar to our physical setting like snacks, seats, and computers. Other rituals that we have are the lessons that each teacher talks about. Each teacher lesson builds on a skill that we need to succeed in the class. Thomas gives us computer skills, Johnston gives us the personal techniques that are required to develop personal repro with clients. Bruce’s skills benefit the office part of business skills in excel and what to keep things to track from clients or customers that consume our goods or services. Attending class is a form of rituals.

We value the teachers and these skills that they are giving us. These skills will help us not only in our work lives but in our everyday life. The lesson that Thomas gave us about how to power search was a great lesson to have. It gave us a great skill to help us better research articles on the internet. This skill helps us everywhere and every class. Bruce has given us an insight into Google Sheets that I did know existed. These skills have personally helped me recently export a spreadsheet of the children I work with. Johnston has helped me polish the skills that I have and is helping me work on the ones that I’m not comfortable using.

The class we have is a really great makeup of many individuals that we can learn from and help us grow as well as rounded employee or boss entering the work field. The class really does have all the culture identifiers but these I think are a few of the most important ones that the citrines have.

Affinity Diagram

This diagram is used to organize thoughts by grouping them into categories. I am not a person that does this these days or ever. But I can see where this is a skill that I should learn to use. If I dont I might be a hard individual to work with.

Etiquette & Netiquette

Etiquette and Netiquette have similar meanings. These are workplace terms for professional ways of acting. Etiquette is knowing how to behave at the right times and places. Having good manners, being on time, give personal space, and avoid gossiping, and just have respect for others. Netiquette is having good manners on the internet. Netiquette is a thing that most people on the internet are lacking. Netiquette is the workplace deal with the internet as well but with writing emails and writing in office memos. Good practices of netiquette are not writing in all caps, not using abberavted words or shorthands, or using offensive words.
